I think I haven't met anyone who doesn't love BBQ. I for one am a big fan of this ultimate 'summer ritual' any outing menu wouldn't be complete without barbecue. It could be pork, chicken, fish and seafood, yes even veggies (for my vegan/vegetarian friends out there) you can almost barbecue anything if you ask me.

BBQ is almost synonymous to summer, it's the high time for those BBQ parties, cook outs and summer soirees outdoors. It's one of those summer staples you never miss. The smell of meat sizzling over the hot grill and taste of ice cold beer while enjoying the wonderful sights of the beach. But for friends stuck in the metro and can't escape to the nearest beach paradise, we can still have a BBQ night right in the comforts of your kitchen or backyard even.

Now this recipe could be used for pork and chicken (for my vegetarian friends this might not be for you but I will come up with a recipe just for you guys as well ;-) ). I think what makes or break a delicious barbecue is the marinade sauce. For some it's the barbecue dip or the cut of meat used but for me, the marinade is the beginning. Even if we use the most expensive cut of meat or just a normal grade chunk it will still taste phenomenal. And the meat should be able to stand alone even without any other condiments.

Here's the recipe that I learn from one of my officemate before (Thanks Marge!!!) which I have come to use at every BBQ soiree I have. It's easy and fool proof. You'll just need these:

- 1 bottle of Banana Ketchup (any brand of your choice)
- 1 can of Sprite
- 1 bottle of Soy Sauce
- garlic
- 1/2 kilo of porkchop, you can also use other cuts (or chicken, again depends on your choice)
- salt and pepper to taste
Now, I am no chef or cook, I am for one still learning my way through the kitchen so to those like me, do not fret I promise that what I'll post will be easy to follow. Now I'm not that big about measurements that's why I like doing recipes that doesn't have a lot of measuring to do or those with easy to follow measurements (like a bottle of this..a cup of that..aahaha) here we can use eyeball measurements and also rely on your taste buds :)

Start by peeling off the garlic and crushing it to release the flavor. Rub it in the meat so that the flavor of garlic will seep in. Then pour in the soy sauce, ketchup and can of Sprite. Mix it in and massage the marinade to the meat. See, it's really easy and no brainer huh! :) For those who want heat in their meat, you can add cayenne pepper or chili powder to pack a punch on your BBQ.

Then store the meat in a container and let it marinate overnight in the fridge.

The next day you can start up your grill to cook your meat in it, or if you are like me who doesn't want the fuss of assembling the big old heavy grill haha, you can always use a stove top grill to cook the meat.  Use some of the marinade sauce mixed with oil to baste your meat to keep if from cooking dry.

Serve hot with either rice, corn cobbler or an ice cold beer.

Enjoy!

Let me know how your BBQ party turns out! I'd love to hear from you!
